BASALT – CLEANING & SEALING
Different surfaces have different requirements in order to keep their beauty and integrity.
Aqua-Seal STS offers Pre-Grout Sealing, Sealing, Maintenance and Restoration specifications. These are listed below for your convenience.
Basalt is an igneous (volcanic) rock formed from the rapid cooling of magnesium-rich and iron-rich lava exposed at or very near the earths’s surface. Basalt is usually grey to black in colour with subtle patterns & is fine grained. Small holes throughout the stone are formed as the lava is cooled rapidly at the earth’s surface. These holes are usually filled at the factory during fabrication or with grout or cement during installation. As Basalt weathers, the colours can show changes to brown or rust-red due to oxidation into rust of its iron-rich minerals.
TYPES OF FINISHES
FLAMED -The flamed finish, is an old world, rustic, rough look.
HONED -A honed finish is smooth with little or no gloss (flat or satin finish).
POLISHED – A polished finish is smooth with a high gloss which also brings out the colour of the stone.
TUMBLED – A tumbled finish is a matt antique/old world look with irregular edges achieved during the tumbling/ageing process.
